It was also used as promenade concerts grazing for cattle and a parade ground for the "volunteer rifles. An important featured of church square is the garden of remembrance.

The square served as an out outspan for churchgoers. It was used as show ground/sport ground and to celebrate 100 years of Worcester and honor the fallen of Worcester during the ww1.In 18 July 2012 on Nelson Mandela's birth day a statue of him were erected in honoring of his journey towards freedom.

It's between Ntulo Road and Sinkwazi Road, from Moses Mabhida road in Crossing, you turn left and about 300 meters turn right keep going straight, you pass Zibukezulu High School and Sukuma High school. Go straight until you take left at the robot and go down the road, follow the road round until you find the Monument on your left
