In addition to this SA war memorial in the village of hermanus the name Sqd. Leader Roger J. Bushell (1910-1944) was included in the roll with a separate tribute on the plaque given by his parents ( Born) He was a South African born British military aviator best known as the mastermind.Purpose:Date Unveiled: Designer: It was designed by the Cape Town architect and gun shells was taken from piles in hermanus.Builder: The grandfather of julius sell built the war memorial.Person/Institution Commemorated: Roger Bushell.Recorder Name: Zimkhitha Mgijima and Anitha Mkondweni

Hermanus had already established a proud record in WW1 when the town had the highest level of volunteering per size of population in the British empire. The war memorial was erected near the old harbor in 1929 to commemorate the 11 volunteers who never returned.
Inscriptions
This was a erected in 1929 in the memory of those who fell in the great war. In proportion to it's population, hermanus sent more men to both wars that any town in South Africa. In recognition to this record the union government presented to wars trophies (fields guns) in 1929 to be mounted on either side of the stone cairn.
