1834 Slaves were Freed,Bernabas shaw bought land to the house Freed slaves in somerset West,started mission,worship began in an old wine cellar.1842 a school was started in the old cellar,which is still part of the school.The cellar was enlarged twice to accommodate the growing community. 1860 A fine new Gothic church was build by the community, using river stone,sun dried bricks and blue gum poles,this stood for 150 years.The school used the vestry as a classroom. 1953 The barnabas shaw hall was constructed, also designed to provide ghre extra classrooms for the school.1963 coloured education act school taken over by the state after 21 years.
2010 front Gable wall of the church collapsed. Worship continued in the hall.Heritage garden established, manservant restored. 2014 church reconstruction completed.Celebration of 180 years of Methodist mission in the helderberg.

From somerset west taxi rank just when I get off the taxi,turn to your left side ,pass the robots then you will see the church which is painted in white and its Methodist church go to the small gate.
