These.303 Enfield rifles are of the type issued to the military forces of the British Empire during the 1899-1902 Anglo boer war
The Bayonettes and ammunition clip form part of the accessories issued with the rifles.
These Two are typical of the rifles captured by the Boers during the final stage of the war.
The barrels and stocks have been cut down to make them more suitable for use on horseback during hit-and-run operations. The front sights have not been replaced.
The rifles were donated by Johan Scheepers . The display was made by Douglas Connell who was the last Training WOll of the Pietersburg Commando
BOTH RIFLES AND AMMUNITION HAVE BEEN DE-ACTIVATED AND ARE USELESS
