This Monument was constructed to commemorate the pioneering flight of General Sir Pierre van Ryneveld when he was first to fly from England over Africa to South Africa.
Original Position
The SA Airforce Monument is now on its third position on the UP Hillcrest campus, its original place was the "crash site"
