    Isandlwana 22 January 1879 Around the hill a British Force under the immediate command of lieutenant Col A.W Durnford and Brevet lieutenant Col H.B Polleine was annihilated by a Zulu Impi of between 20 000 to 25 000 umder the command of Ntshingwayo Ka Mahole Khoza 52 officers, 806 commissioned officer and men, as also 491 native troops and non-combatants lost their lives, this lead directly to the heroic defence of Rorkes Drift which lies 10 miles of the west Erected by the Historical Monument Commission
