    The fountain was established to honour the miners, both past and present, who work hard to keep the industry alive. The heroic five-figure fountain each honour and represents the five big diamond mines in Kimberley, namely Kimberley Mine, De Beers Mine, Bultfontein Mine, du Toitspan Mine, and Wesselton Mine.
