The Birth Modern City Of Cape Town "Gateway to Africa" (Speech 1 May 1952,Jc Van Wyk Styker) May I say that to the planners have fallen the privilege of planning a new modern city before it was built. To the Foreshore board,of which I have the honour to be Chairman, has fallen the task of creating reality out of dreams and vision.i will then also like yo and that we are resolutely determined that nothing will deter us from ghd straight and narrow path of getting on with the job,and we sincerely hope that in this we have the whole of Cape Town and the Co behind us.However, understand me well,we do not underes this gigantic task, the difficulties we know of or those still to come.we are undertaking something not yet attempted in this country or,for that matter,in very many countries in the world .This is the building of a new Cape Town which must be something we can all be proud of and which yet must be integrated into the existing and historic old city yo firm a United whole with the Tabke Mountain as a back-ground
