Description
The purpose of this statue was to honor her role in the struggle as she was the first president of African National Congress Women's league in KZNand also she led a protest march in 1959 and campaigned against the pass lawsin the province.

Dr Margaret Mncadi was born in the Eastern Transvaal and educated at Fort Hare and Wits respectively, become the first African National Congress Women's League president in Natal. Having lead about 500 women in a March at Ixopo in 1959, which demanded answers from the native commissioner regarding grievances they influenced by the activities of the Mayibuye I-Africa Campaign, she was arrested on the 9th October 1959. Her escapades as an activist included active participation in the women's campaign against pass laws in the then Natal, which included among other things going to St Faith's magistrate court to stop men from complying with the demands of the such laws, an event which led to three hundred and sixty women being arrested and incarcerated at the Pietermaritzburg Old Prison. Resistance strategies and action programmes were planned together with other activists at her residence; while public gatherings for reports, mass participation and instructions were often held at KwaNokweja sports grounds

It's a 2 minutes drive from, Wimpy Delmas head southwest on sarel Cilliersstraat/R555 toward Karel schoeman street 160m turn right onto 5th Avenue in 450m turn right onto Dolomite street and in 50m you would have arrived at Delmas magistrate court and from the gate the monument is located on your right hand side.
