Commandant General Piet Joubert was in command of the defence of the Zuid-Afrikaanche Republic (ZAR)since 13 December 1880 .In 1881 he established two corps ,i.e the Artilleriecorps van de Zuid-Afrikaanche Republiek and the Transvaalche Rijdende Politie .He will also be remembered for his role as the chairman of the ZAR Fort Construction Commission for the establishment of the four forts around Pretoria of which Fort Schanskop was opened in April 1897.
