Section 2.1.4, on page 13 of the DBAR, mentions that these additional measures have been incorporated into the DBAR and the accompanying Environmental Management Programme (EMPr). Table 3-2 of the EMPr lists the mitigation measures/management actions with two of the heritage relevant ones being listed on page 23 under items 59 and 60. These two items are missing information from the additional measures that the SAHRA initially requested to be included. This must be amended as follows:

An addition must be made to item 59 to specify that not only if shipwreck artefacts, but rather if any heritage resources are encountered that work must cease in the immediate area and the SAHRA must be notified immediately. The SAHRA will then advise on how to proceed. The contact to be used in this case is Ruan Brand, heritage officer in the MUCH unit, [email protected], 021 462 8672.
An addition must also be made to item 60 as palaeontological resources need to be included in the list.

If these two additions are made, the SAHRA would have no reason to object to the proposed works on the basis of adequate mitigation measures for MUCH. The SAHRA looks forward to seeing the amendments as part of a revised DBAR or a Final Basic Assessment Report. Please note that all updates and/or changes to the project, supporting documentation, correspondence, reports, or any other work relating to the project must be uploaded to the case on SAHRIS to provide SAHRA with the opportunity to comment. SAHRA does not accept emailed documents or hard-copy documents received via post.
