Digby Wells Environmental (Digby Wells) was appointed Digby Wells Environmental (Digby Wells) to undertake a Grave Relocation Process (GRP) of 369 graves located on located at Mafube Colliery, in the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality of Mpumalanga (STLM). However, during the implementation of the 369-grave exhumation process, Digby Wells were approached by community members alerting the team to previously unidentified and unknown cemeteries that will also be impacted on. These are referred to as chance finds burials by the Project team and are not covered under the existing permit. Therefore, Digby Wells hereby applies for a grave relocation permit for 2 graveyards, comprised 38 (excluding 4 graves that have not received consent) that were recently discovered and were not part of the initial permit application. Mafube is currently expanding its operations as part of the Life Extension (Lifex) Project to exploit the Nooitgedacht coal reserves on the farms Nooitgedacht 417 JS and Roodepoort 418 JS.
