Interim Comment
The South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA) notes the submission of the Letter of recommendation for the exemption of a full Phase 1 Heritage Impact Assessment for the application from the Emmanual Christian School. However, SAHRA requests that DEIA and its appendices be uploaded to the case. In terms of palaeontological heritage, the SA Palaeontological Sensitivity Map indicates that the study area has Moderate fossil sensitivity, therefore a palaeontological desktop study is required. The SAHRA 2012 Minimum Standards: Palaeontological Component of Heritage Impact Assessments makes reference to a Letter of Recommendation for Exemption that is to be submitted if there is no likelihood that heritage sites will be impacted.
Further Comments will be issued upon receipt of the desktop PIA/ exemption letter and DEIA along with its appendices. The applicant is advised to extend the EA process in terms of section 19(1)b of the NEMA EIA regulations in order to address this comment. Further comments will be issued upon receipt of the above requested reports.
