    Proposal Description
This submission is for SAHRA’s permission to change the land use of the Castle of Good Hope. It stems from a desire by the owner of the Salaam Mnandi Restaurant on the property to apply for a liquor license. This will not only significantly improve the viability of his concern, but also the sustainability of the Castle of Good Hope as a whole. The proposal to change the current zoning has the support of SAHRA.

The restaurant is currently a non-conforming use which needs to be regularized before a liquor license can be applied for. In order for the non-conforming use to be regularized, the land use of the property needs to change.

The proposal is to re-zone the property to Mixed-Use Zone: sub-zonings: MU1 and MU2 (split zonings) with the primary and only use (MU1) being the restaurant. Subdivision is not considered appropriate due to the extra costs that would be incurred and the prospects of making the management of the Castle unnecessarily complex.
