The house which was erected in 1885 is probably one of the oldest remaining dwellings in Ficksburg. Many of the original elements of the building, such as the sliding sash windows, quoining around the doors and windows, timber floors, fire-places and four panelled doors have been retained. Especially the bay window on the front façade with its sandstone ornamentation deserves special mentioning. However, certain alterations had been affected to the building, such as the replacement of the original timber pillars and balustrade and the addition of the enclosed veranda on the north eastern elevation which detract from the original appearance and character of the building. Although it may therefore not qualify for declaration as a national monument, it is none the less worthy of conservation.
