Statement of Significance
The mill-building, together with the nearby tomb where Lemue and his wife are buried are the only tangible remainder of the former mission station at Carmel. It serves at a reminder of the valuable contribution made by earlier missionaries to the social, economic, and religious life of the people of the Free State Republic. As one of only a few mill-buildings remaining in the Free State this building is also of outstanding cultural and historical importance.
