This fine stone bridge was completed in 1898 on the instructions of the Government of the South African Republic.

History; President Paul Kruger was largely responsible for the policy of constructing roads and railways within the SAR to connect Pretoria with Maputo (then lourenco Marques) ; the bridge over the Pivaan River Bridge is better known as Kruger Bridge. Proclaimed a National Monument 10 May 1966.
