    The purpose of this memorial site was mainly to commemorate the Irish brigades who fought alongside the Boers against the British in the South African war that took place in 1899 to 1902.

    The Monument was originally erected in Johannesburg but was then moved to the Northern Cape in Orania due to concerns of it being demolished.
