      Importance in the community or pattern of history. Importance in terms of the history of diamond mining and industrialisation in the early Republics north of the Cape Colony, with the accompanying internationalisation of the Republics and the eventual incorporation of the Republics into the Union of South Africa, as well as the subsequent mining activity.
