    Description

    Gift of appreciation from the Japanese Government.  It replaced an existing lotus-like flower fountain. Background information: According to Crump & van Niekerk (1988) this gift was the first of two gifts from the Government of Japan. On the 11th August, 1932 five hundred cherry trees were presented as a second gift. It is not clear what happened to these trees.
