    From 1992 until 1942 royal naval reserve ( south African base) situated in the farmer royal engineers yard between the oranjie and leerdam bastion of the Castle. Here Cape town volunteer sailors,sea cadets and sea scouts underwent training until wartime expansion resulted in the building H.M.S.A.S.unite in the table bay docks.from mid-October 1939until mid-January 1940.The Castle also served as a rear.admiral G.W Halifax ,C.M.G. and the staff of sea ward defence force.This statue commemorates to all those sailors who served here and gave their lives during world war 2.
