The 1860 Indian Indentured Settlers This monument by Natal Cane Growers Association is to honour and commemorate the arrival of Indian Indentured Labourers in 1860 to work in the cane fields of Natal as cane cutters. They were brought into the colony due to the shortage of labour and the unwillingness of the local inhabitants to work regularly.
