The statue was developed by the same artists for chamber of Mines( David Mac Gregor). The two art works were split into two different projects and the miners Monument still stands at the City council chambers in Braamfontein.Purpose:

The statue commemorates Captain Carl Von Brandis,who was the first to build a house in the vicinity previously known as the Residency,at the corner of smal and kerk street,which was named after Captain Von Brondis in 1894.
